"Blondes are the best victims. They’re like virgin snow which shows up the bloody footprints."
-Alfred Hitchcock-
With Blonde On Beige, a photo and video project, we strive to make visible the daunting and haunting sensation of representing a stereotype, and how it's impenetrable faceless masks emphasize the loneliness of role-playing.Your appearance turns into a show but sometimes you just don't want to perform. Do you try to camouflage into the environment and take on the stereotype role given to you in search of protecting your privacy? With this project our interest lies in trying to analyze how human nature demands simplification of the surrounding world by typecasting and how we subsequently fall victim to these restrictions. The project serves as a multi-media commentary, using images and known stereotypical looks as a weapon to portray something else then their banality.
Blonde on Beige is the third in a series of four projects made between 2006 and 2010, that deal with the powerful, rigid, relatively empty and confusing facades of the stereotypical.
